This article is based on a video Special Educator & Auditory Verbal Therapist (AVT), Ms. Kim Chadda, where she addresses the importance and need for early intervention to help a child improve their speech and communication skills. This video is part of the parent empowerment series.

What is Early Intervention?

Early intervention refers to support for young children up to the age of 3 years that experience concerns in important developmental milestones.

This is a crucial time for the development of the child and work done with the child during this time can help immensely to improve progress and development in important areas such as speech and language.

Can a child’s speech and communication improve with early intervention?

Once the child has undergone evaluation to make sure there are no underlying physical conditions that may hinder the child’s speech and language development, it is important for the parents to seek professional support.

Intervention at any age will be worked on and can impact the child in a positive way. Early intervention works best if the parents are closely engaged with the team of therapists, working towards achieving carefully set goals to help the child speak and communicate to the best extent possible.
