“For children with developmental disabilities like Autism or Cerebral Palsy, assisting in feeding, grooming, exercising and playing with our therapy animals promotes the development of motor and organizational skills. But most of all, in caring for our pets these children (whose frame of reference usually does not extend beyond them) learn to relate to and communicate better in their interpersonal relationships.
We also use AAT to help children with Learning Disabilities. Reading in the presence of our therapy pets creates a motivating, safe and non-judgmental environment for the child. Our therapy pets make the best reading companions as they do not make fun of or criticize the child and the child proceeds at his own pace.
We use animal-assisted therapy to help children with emotional or behavioural problems. Playing with an animal in a supervised way reduces negative behaviours, creates a sense of responsibility and even improves a child’s ability to participate in therapeutic treatment.”
