Are there specific genes responsible for Autism?

Autism_ASD_RiskFactors_Genetics_DevelopmentalDisability

About 18-20% of cases in Autism have a genetic link that has been linked to the incidence of Autism. Autism isn’t however a single gene disorder. There are multiple gene abnormalities linked to Autism. More and more are being identified as we speak. To complicate the genetics further, the multiple genes that function abnormally in children with Autism appear to be de novo i.e. unique to each individual. Hence the gene defects cannot be traced back in the family tree. Majority of the genetically determined Autism syndromes do not have an identifiable gene associated with it. So, don’t blame yourself. You can’t blame your genes for your child being born with Autism. It is a purely chance event.

Are gastrointestinal issues in Autism related to hormonal secretion issues?

GastrointestinalIssues_Autism_ASD_Anxiety_BehaviourManagement

Hormonal malfunction has nothing to do with Autism. Autism is due to aberrant brain development. Autism is a behavior disorder of regulation – the regulation of basic bodily functions, such as chewing, eating or defecating. Anxiety associated with the modality of basic bodily functions is the root cause for challenges in autism. The condition of Autism can thus be referred to as a psychological determined, biologically driven behavior disorder rather than have anything to do with Gastrointestinal issues per se.
