A combination of anxiety and mood disorder is a very tough situation to manage in any individual, and a common challenge observed in older children with Autism.

There are a small fraction of older children with Autism who may also present hallucinations and psychosis as they grow older. But, fear not. The parent must learn and anticipate the occurrence of psychiatric co-morbidities in the child by looking out for signs of mood fluctuations and seek help from a psychiatrist as early as possible.

With proper management psychiatric problems can be well managed. But, the key is to seek help at the earliest hint of these challenges in the child.
