Every parent with an individual (child/young adult) with a disability is fraught with concern about the individual’s care in the foreseeable future. It is good planning to ensure the child/young adult’s future is in safe hands, in the event that the primary caregiver is incapable or absent to care for the child/young adult. The National Trust of India has a provision to apply for and procure a Legal Guardianship Certificate. A Legal Guardianship is a legal process of appointing a Legal Guardian for your child/young adult, who has the authority to make decisions on all personal matters (in some cases financial too) on behalf of the child/young adult, to suit his/her best interests. Please refer to the presentation above to understand the key steps and preparations required to apply for Legal Guardianship for children with special needs.
