Key Takeaways:

  1. Always use verbal language, even if the child responds with gestures or signs.
  2. Everyday activities like feeding, dressing, and bathing are great opportunities for language learning.
  3. Constant communication during routine tasks helps reinforce language naturally.
  4. Repetitive daily chores support development of memory, cognition, and communication skills.
  5. Make everyday moments teachable—they are powerful tools for building social and verbal abilities.

In this video Special Educator & Auditory Verbal Therapist (AVT), Ms. Kim Chadda helps find ways to improve a child’s communication skills while engaging in everyday chores around the house.

It is important to remember to use verbal language when speaking to the child even if he/she uses gestures/signs/movement to communicate. It is always beneficial to constantly communicate when engaging in everyday activities — feeding, dressing, bathing, playing, etc. It is beneficial to use everyday repetitive tasks as means to help build a child’s language, memory, cognitive abilities and social communication skills.
