Key Takeaways:

We are currently working on the key takeaways for this article. They will be available soon.

Direct genetic evaluation of the second pregnancy is not recommended until and unless the first child (who has Autism) is tested genetically. The first child (who has Autism) is tested routinely for genetic defects in a sequence of genetic tests. Gene defects indicative of Fragile X syndrome is first analyzed. If this is negative, defects at a larger level of genes is analyzed through several procedures. Only after a clear genetic basis is identified in the first child, will the same gene defect be assessed in the second pregnancy to understand risk of the same in the next child.
