Key Takeaways:

This informative video is the first in a series of videos that talks about NIOS or the National Institute of Open schooling – the largest open schooling in India. Through this video, Prachi Puranik, a parent advocate and special educator shares her inputs on the benefits of NIOS.

The main principle of NIOS is to make education accessible. It does not impose any restrictions on the students with respect to the pace of learning and is therefore preferred by many parents across the country.

Freedom to the learner

Prachi highlights the most important benefit of opting for NIOS education is that it allows the learner complete freedom to decide the course as well as the pace of learning.

What, when and how – everything is decided by the learner.

What – NIOS offers a wide range of subjects and the learner can choose which subjects they would like to apply for.

How – to learn the chosen subjects

When – NIOS conducts exams twice a year, so the learner can decide when to take the examinations. Additionally. NIOS does not restrict the examinations but allows the learner multiple attempts for the selected subjects.

There is no restriction on the time, place or pace of learning in the NIOS mode of education. It is therefore fast becoming the chosen mode of learning for many children with disabilities.
