  • Special Education Center for Mentally Handicapped in Hyderabad is a Special School. They work with children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Institute of Generics and Hospital for Genetic Diseases was established by Osmania University in the year 1978. A special education centre for children with IDD was started in the year 1993. The Special Education Centre is headed by Prof P. Usha Rani who has a PhD in Clinical Psychology. There are around 28 students in the school and the school caters to three different age groups: pre-primary, primary and vocational. The centre covers a wide range of IDDs, including individuals with multiple disability. Since the centre is linked to the Hospital for Genetic Diseases, the centre is able call upon a pediatrician as needed. The Centre also runs an Early Intervention Centre. As part of the vocational programme, children are taught how to make phenyl, paper plates, paper bags, candles, wheat flour, greeting cards and diyas. The team at the special school consists of special educators, speech therapist, physiotherapist and psychologist.
