Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder. The presence of a third copy of chromosome-21 causes it. Most people have 4 chromosomes in all of their cells but in people with Down Syndrome they have 47 chromosomes and because of that they look different. It is important to maintain a health tracker for children with down syndrome. Hence, regular health assessments for children with Down syndrome (DS)  from 3 months – 20 years of age is imperative as your child grows older.

Apart from intellectual and developmental delays, people with DS are at an increased risk of developing certain health conditions. Awareness of some of these common health problems in these individuals and continuous monitoring of these challenges will help reduce their adverse affects on the person’s health and aid in prompt management. DS cannot be cured. But careful management of health challenges can have a positive impact on the overall development of the individual. Please use this checklist and health tracker for children with down syndrome. Use this to keep a detailed account of doctor consultations and medical tests performed.
