Bijal Harkhani

Founder, Mantra Foundation

What began as a mother’s determination to create a better world for her son has grown into a life-changing initiative for more than 500 families across Gujarat.

In 2013, Bijal founded Genius Super Kids (GSK), a one-of-its-kind integrated education set-up located within Genius School, Rajkot. Here, children with special needs receive special education, therapy, inclusive sports training, and vocational skills like chocolate-making, diya-making, and cotton-wick crafting, empowering them toward self-reliance and confidence.

Building on GSK’s success, she launched the Mantra Foundation in 2016, which supports children and adults unable to attend school due to economic, behavioural, or mobility challenges. Through the foundation, she introduced Gujarat’s first Hobby Centre exclusively for differently-abled individuals, offering dance, yoga, cooking, art, and computer classes. The Foundation also runs Mantra’s Mart, an Amul outlet that doubles as a vocational training platform for intellectually challenged adults.

The impact has been both personal and societal. Bijal’s son, Mantra Harkhani, became a two-time Special Olympics Gold Medallist (Abu Dhabi 2019) and a recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar. Bijal herself received the SABAL Innovative Thinking Award from TATA Steel Foundation for her pioneering Functional Curriculum for special education.

Today, the Foundation runs two centres in Rajkot, prepares students for NIOS 10th and 12th, and continues to expand across India and abroad through hybrid learning models. Bijal remains committed to training parents, empowering mothers, and providing assessment and counselling camps across Gujarat.
