Career Planning Tips for your Child with a Disability

The video is made by Ummeed Child Development Center, Mumbai.

All our children are going to grow up, all our children are going to reach a point where we need to start thinking about their future and what they are going to do. Everybody can contribute meaningfully, the career may be different from what parents may have originally envisioned for their child but their child will be able to contribute in some way or the other. Whether it is setting up their own home bakery business, whether it is going to a sheltered workshop, whether it is working in a bank, whether it is working in a hotel or an IT firm. We don’t know. We just need to keep exploring, keep exposing their child to different scenarios, different interests, different situations and then seeing where they end up. The important thing is that they are contributing meaningfully in some way or the other.

In this video, Gopika Kapoor shares career planning tips for your child with a disability and special needs.

How to Find and Select a School for a Child with Disability?

The video is made by Ummeed Child Development Center, Mumbai.

Choosing the right school for a child is a tough decision for any parent. When it comes to choosing a school for children with disabilities and special educational needs parents often ask what some of the considerations are for finding and selecting a school. Children spend a large part of their formative years in the school and as such it is vital that school is an enjoyable, safe, and positive learning space and a supportive and nurturing environment that will help your child thrive. Whether you choose a special school, mainstream school, or home-based education is a decision that you will take as a parent and family (and do take your child’s opinion into account about what they would prefer).

In this video, Seema Nath lays out some factors that you can take into consideration while selecting a school for your child.
